The two Blade F16 who entered the Vele di Pasqua 2009 in Italy did perform very well with a first and second place in there class. They started together with the F18 and Mattia Esse and showed very competitive with finishes in front of the F18's on elapsed time. This was noticed by a great group of the F18 and Mattia Esse teams so they came by for a ride and more information.
Congratulations to Federico Farina and Cassio Barbizzi with there first place ( 1,1,2,2,1,1 ) and Riccardo Ceriani and Fabrizio Boldrini with there second place ( 2,2,1,3,2,2 ).

Viper F16 - Alter cup boat for 2009 |
|
Monday, 27 April 2009 |
|
For the second time in three years an F16 design has been chosen as Alter Cup boat. The Hobie Alter Cup or U.S. Multihull Championship is intended to determine a U.S. National Multihull Champion and is sailed annually on various types of multihulls at various venues. Each year the event invites 20 teams, who have won their area or class championship to compete on identical equipment provided by a single manufacturer.
After the Blade F16, Alter cup boat in 2007, the Viper F16 is the Alter cup boat of this year. AHPC has the rare opportunity to supply their catamarans two years in a row. After a great feedback from last year with the Capricorn F18, this year the Viper F16 promises fast, competitive racing.
The five day regatta will be held in Clearwater Beach, Florida, October 17-21 and hosted by the Clearwater Sailing Center. Already there is great excitement from the sailors to be competing on such a fast, exciting and versatile F16 design as the Viper.
This is a great opportunity for the Viper and the F16 class in general to gain
exposure to a high caliber of sailors, and to the world of multihull sailing. At AHPC they are proud and excited to have this opportunity to promote such a strong and growing class of catamaran and encourage everyone to keep an eye on the regatta.
The demand for the new Viper design has been a hit in the US and all the Alter Cup boats are expected to be sold before the event even starts. The boat offers, as other F16 designs, a unique opportunity to be sailed single handed or double. Owners have been very excited about the boat and the versatility that it offers. They are amazed that this level of performance is available in a 16' boat.
AHPC want to put special thanks on their US Distributors, Fun In The Sun
(Jill Nickerson and Robbie Daniel) for all the fantastic work they have done.

New F16 model - Falcon F16 |
|
Tuesday, 07 April 2009 |
|
Another F16 model hits the water. Falcon Marine debuted a new F16 at the Tradewinds regatta in January. And how! Matt and Gina ended up first in the F16 class.
Built/designed by Matt McDonald, producer of the US Blade F16, the new Falcon F16 is still a wave piercer like the Blade and shares many similarities.
The Falcon takes the design evolution a few steps further, a more refined hull shape with additional volume, free board and styling highlight some of the changes made to the design.
The goal of the designer was to create a platform that had equal or better upwind performance to that of the already proven very fast Blade, yet is more stable and easier to push in strong and gusty downwind conditions.
Based on the boats first sail, those goals have been met and Falcon Marine looks forward to continuing to dial in the rig and prove how fast an F16 can be.
This design is the 7th production F16 design on the market giving the class another boost.

Dear F16 sailors,
Very often is told that the European international sailing season starts with the Vele di Pasua in Italy. The event exsist for 35 years already with big starting fieldsin several classes like A-class ( 80+ boats ), Tornado, Hobie 16 and several other classes. The F16 was never there and maybe the 35 version of the event is a good point in time to be there. So like Eurocat last year lets give it a go and put the F16 on the map in this big event.
It will be sailed during Easter on 11th to 13th April 2009 in Cesenatico ( Italiy.).
The website for finding the NOR and more information is http://www.congregavilisti.it or just put in Google "Vele di Pasqua"
Hope to see a lot of F16's during Easter.
Best Regards,
Hans Klok

We congratulate John Pierce with first place in the GC2008. The GC2008 proved to be a windy event with all the drama hard winds bring. John sailed a consistent series with a fourth and third place as his drop races. Great performance! In second place Joanna Lienti and Geert Ruesink also sailed a very consistent series, also with a fourth and third as their drop races. In the end just one point differed between first and second! Pretty amazing considering how little time they had to train together before the event. Joanna flew in from the USA just a couple of days before the first race. Third place was won by Kathleen and Gill from Belgium, our PR committee members. Hopefully we will get som videos and photos from them later on. Full results can be found on http://www.mumblesyachtclub.co.uk/results/2008/f16worlds.htm The event was troubled with too much wind, just like last year in Zandvoort. Only two out of the planned four racing days was safe for sailing, and even then there was some breakages. One boat reportedly broke a spreader after the start of race one, but managed to save the rig. Well done! The depth of skills in the class is growing, considering the winner of the GC2006 finished in fifth and the 2007 champion finished in eight position on the scoreboard (to be fair, the 2007 champion had to leave early and lost the three last races). Monday evening there was a meeting where the president, secretary and treasurer reported on the status of the class and the close future. Look for an announcement from the Governing Council to all members on this soon. We have not recieved reports on the social activites and who did best at the bar, but we expect some war stories both from the bar and from the sailing on our forum presently. |

GC2008: Day two, another blowout |
|
Monday, 11 August 2008 |
|
Strong winds gusting to 30knots and beyond made for no racing on day two. Here is the short from our correspondents. One hour postponement; very similar to yesterday. Rescue boat is going out to check the wind conditions at 11:30 and then a decision will be made. On the up side, it is not raining (at the moment).
Few people have been out on Ribs and they all say it's totally unraceable. Gusts to 33kts earlier! Paul (Alani) went out on borrowed kit Tim. Bic raceboard with a 5.6m sail. Support RIB clocked him at 25kts plus several times before he crashed and burned!
When he got ashore he reckoned the gusts were probably somewher near 2x windspeed and it was just impossible to hold onto the sail as it powered up too quickly to react! |

GC2008 - Day 1: Blowout.. |
|
Saturday, 09 August 2008 |
|
Todays racing is cancelled. Strong winds makes racing impossible. Here is the report from our correspondent at Mumbles Rescue boat went out; average wind was around 22-24 over the course; max gust was 34kts!
No sailing today; plan to race from 11am tomorrow; however the forcast for tomorrow is similar!!!!

GC2008 - Day 1: Strong winds and postponement |
|
Saturday, 09 August 2008 |
|
A day with string winds at the coast of Wales. Here is the take from our reporter at the scene at 1200 hours: 2 hrs postponement. Forcast is bad 23kts gusting to 30; rescue boat has been out and over 2 minute period; average 21kts, gusting 29 -
It seems like the race committee is keen to have some races today as they have postponed for just two hours. Fortunately Mumbles Yacht club have a bar and other facilities where the competitors can rest while waiting. We all hope this will not be a repeat of last years GC blowout. |

Global Challenge 2008 kicks off tomorrow |
|
Friday, 08 August 2008 |
|
The Formula 16 Global Challenge begins tomorrow. Organizers are the the GBR class association and Mumbles Yacht Club. We have been promised daily updates from participants and several video kits and GPS units are at the venue. Here is a small report from our reporter Simon Longstaff who also participates in the event on F16 GBR 553. Today has been a day of bimbling, and sailing. I did the first practice race and then decided I need to change some settings and so went in as Hans came out; Overall Mark P ran 3 or 4 races round decent sized W/L courses. Some were going fast up wind, some were going fast down wind.
The wind was a shift F2-3. Tomorrow's forecast looks a bit dicey (22-30 kts) so people are tieing boats to anything heavy they can find.

Formula 16 PR committee formed |
|
Thursday, 10 January 2008 |
|
We, the F16
GC are pleased that, after asking for help, there were people who want to help
and put their shoulders under the F16 class. This means that the F16 PR
committee is now formed and that the F16 class will be spreading the news of
its existence around the world.
We think
it is a good idea to have an international member committee so we can reach the
most people possible all around the world.
The idea
of the PR committee is to give more publicity to the F16 class in magazines,
news papers, internet etc . We think
that by using a PR committee we will achieve the maximum result with the best
possible input from the members.
The
following people have accepted appointment to the PR committee
Rolf Nilsen (Norway)
Gill de Bruyne (Belgium)
Kathleen Vandenbulcke (Belgium)
Gary
Maskiell (Australia)
Mark
Presdee (Great
Britain)
Unfortunately
we are missing somebody from the United States but if somebody wants
to be part of this committee please contact me, all the help is welcomed.
With
friendly regards,
Hans
Klok
